Institute of Architectural Engineering Heritage (IAEH)

Description

The Institute of Architectural Engineering Heritage (IAEH) supports Texas communities and organizations by assessing, documenting, and planning for the preservation of culturally significant heritage sites. Through a multidisciplinary network of expert partners, the institute offers resources that range from historical research to advanced documentation methods—including large-format photography, measured drawings, laser scanning, oral histories, and media production. Its goal is to help communities understand the cultural impact of their heritage assets and develop solutions that preserve both structural integrity and cultural identity, with all documentation archived in the South Texas Archives and the Library of Congress. IAEH projects are carried out by Texas A&M University–Kingsville students who gain hands-on experience in engineering, architecture, planning, history, and media. Guided by faculty mentors, students develop marketable skills while contributing to meaningful preservation work across the state. By integrating expertise across engineering, architecture, history, planning, and communications—and by emphasizing the study of historic engineering and landscape architecture alongside traditional preservation work—IAEH fills a unique niche in safeguarding the heritage resources of Texas.
